PEN Sponsors Ceilidh
All area residents are invited to Bloomington's
first céilidh (pronounced KAY-lee) on
Friday, February 2nd 1996 from 7 to 11 pm at the
Waldron Arts Center Auditorium in Bloomington. This
celebration of community features world music,
medieval and modern dance, interpretive poetry, and
traditional storytelling.
The hours of 7
to 10 pm will feature scheduled performers,
including Salaam (Middle Eastern music), Vida
(Balkan and African folk music), Rhythm Quest
(world percussion), Windfall Dancers (modern
dance), Last Minute Productions (audio theatre),
the Bloomington Feminist Chorus (world music), the
Society for Creative Anachronism (medieval dance),
Steve Volan (interpretive poetry), Nan Brooks and
members of the Bloomington Storytellers' Guild
(storytelling), Katherine Wiley (Scottish
fiddling), Amandla Ugetsi (African music), Andrea
Leed (hammered dulcimer), Jolet (clowning),
Wolodymyr Smishkewych (early music), Alain Barker
(balafon), and many more. From 10 to 11 pm there
will be an open jam for all interested audience
members.
Admission is
$7; only $5 with a canned food donation. Children
12 and under admitted for $3. Proceeds benefit the
Monroe County Community Kitchen and the Pagan
Educational Network. So come for an hour or the
whole evening, bring an instrument, and help
celebrate community with neighbors and friends!
